How do I call a phone number from my browser?

1. Create an account. Sign up in your browser with email, Google, or Apple. No card is needed. If you sign up with email, calls start once you confirm the address.
2. Check your line. Make the free echo call. It's a real call that plays your voice back, so you hear how your microphone and connection sound. The first 105 seconds are free.
3. Add credit. Your first top-up can be $5, on your first purchase only. After that, the standard top-ups are $20 and $50.
4. Type the number. Type the full international number, starting with the country code. Before you dial, the dialer shows that number's per-minute rate, their local time, and "They'll see": the number the call comes from.
5. Press Call. Press Call and allow the microphone when your browser asks. Their phone rings like any other call.

What does the person I'm calling need?

Nothing. They get an ordinary incoming call on their landline or mobile, with no app, no account, and no internet connection on their end. Before you dial, the dialer shows the number the call comes from, under "They'll see." Which number they see, and whether they can call you back.

Is this the same as a WhatsApp or FaceTime call?

No. An app call connects two people who both have the app. A call to a real number rings a phone, whatever the other person has installed.

Which browsers and phones does it work on?

It works in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari, on a computer or a phone: Chrome 120, Edge 120, Firefox 121, Safari 17.2, and Opera 106 or newer, and on iPhone and iPad, iOS 17.2 or newer. An older browser gets a page asking you to update it before DialHard opens. You also need a microphone and speakers or headphones; the ones built into a laptop or phone work.

On a phone, DialHard runs in the mobile browser. Open the site and sign in; there is nothing to install.

The DialHard browser extension turns a phone number on a web page into one click to your dialer. It doesn't place calls itself: the call starts when you press Call in your DialHard tab.

What does a call cost?

Each call is billed per minute at that number's rate, rounded up to whole minutes and counted from when they answer. A call of 4 minutes and 1 second is billed as 5 minutes. Ringing isn't billed, and neither are busy or unanswered calls. If voicemail picks up, that counts as an answer. There's no connection fee, and billing is in US dollars.

What can't a browser call do?

• Emergency calls. Emergency calls don’t go through DialHard. 911, 112 and other emergency numbers are blocked — keep your regular phone for those.
• More than one call at a time. An account runs one call at a time.
• Move a call to another device. A call lives in the tab that placed it, and closing or reloading that tab ends the call. Your credit and call history are on every device you sign in on.
• Reach every number. Premium-rate numbers and some high-risk destinations are blocked, or need approval before you can call them.

Is a browser call private and secure?

Your audio is encrypted between your browser and DialHard's carriers: the connection uses TLS 1.2 or higher, and the call audio uses SRTP. From there it travels like any phone call, so it isn't end-to-end encrypted.

DialHard doesn't keep call audio. What is kept: the record of each call (the number, duration, and cost) and your call history, for as long as your plan keeps it. If captions are on for a call, its transcript is kept, for your plan's transcript period. Voicemail left on a number you own is kept for your plan's voicemail period. Can I call from a shared computer?

Yes. Use a private window: the browser keeps your sign-in, your settings and, on some pages, numbers you dialed and caption text, and closing a private window clears them. Use a headset if the call is private.
